Happy New Year!
Dear SRCSA Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday season filled with loved ones! Welcome back!
Prior to Winter break, we began our monthly school wide assemblies focused on Toolbox. Toolbox is a social emotional learning program focused on building emotional self- awareness, self-management and wellness skills with in our students. Many of our teachers have used the Toolbox program with their students in the past. Through ongoing school wide assemblies, we will be using the Toolbox program and strategies school wide. Information about the tools we are focusing on will be sent home to you each month through the Wednesday communication folder. I encourage you to take a moment to complete the activity focused on the new tool(s) with your child. This will help you to be aware of the language your child is familiar with so that you will be able to use the tools at home and reinforce your child’s learning at school. In December, your child learned about the ‘breathing tool’. This Friday all students will participate in the second assembly where they will learn the next two tools. If you are interested in visiting the Toolbox website, you can learn more by going to https://www.dovetaillearning.org
In December, our teachers and I participated in our second professional development focused on Arts Integration with Melanie Rick. Melanie is a National Board Certified teacher who is a certified Reading Specialist and co-owner and senior arts integration consultant for Focus 5 Inc. This second round of professional development was focused on using Art images to drive instruction and inquiry across all content and curricular areas. Our teachers have been actively using the strategies they have learned through this valuable professional development in their classroom instruction.
This month we will launch the Youth in Arts program for 4th through 8th grades. If you have a student in 4th through 8th grades and are able, please join us for the Youth in Arts Family Night on January 11th from 5:30-7pm in the MPR. There will be activities for you and your student(s) to participate in. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about this rich program
I wish you all the best in 2018!
