Make a Difference

From volunteering in the classroom to joining campus-wide committees, there are many ways to support our school community.

Each year our families create a strong school community through volunteer work. Our SRCSA families are expected to contribute 20 hours of volunteer to the school. These hours can be completed in a variety of fun ways. From volunteering in the classroom and at school events, to beautifying the campus or taking tasks home, our volunteers bring us together as a community. We ask that all volunteers check-in with the school office before proceeding onto the campus. Completed volunteer hours can be logged on-line or in the office when you sign in.

SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION (SACO)

Our school is supported by the School for the Arts Community Organization (SACO), a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded to serve as the parent-teacher organization for the school. Led by a Board comprised of ten parent volunteers, monthly evening meetings are held in the Multi-Purpose Room and everyone is encouraged to attend.
Each year, SACO organizes an array of events that benefit the school and its students. SACO organizes three school-wide fundraisers each year: SEED in August/September, Art Walk in October, and a Spring Fundraiser in March/April. They also organize Walk and Roll to School, the annual Literacy Week/Book Fair, Halloween Carnival, Yearbook, and other activities and events.

SACO provides regular communication to the school community about events and happenings through their weekly email newsletter. Keep an eye out for new volunteer opportunities!

 PARENT ADVISORY BOARD (PAB)

PAB is a group of teachers and parents that meet monthly to work with the principal to develop, review, and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. Other responsibilities include making decisions about parent engagement, safety and discipline. The voting members of PAB are elected and everyone is welcome to attend meetings.
One of the key responsibilities of PAB is to develop the Local Control Accountability Plan or LCAP. The LCAP describes the school's overall vision for students, annual goals, and specific actions the school will take to achieve the vision and goals. PAB must approve the plan, recommend it to the Santa Rosa City School Board, monitor its implementation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the planned activities at least annually.

 ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)

Each California public school with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Our ELAC committee meets approximately once a month.
The primary functions of ELAC are as follows:

  • Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the Parent Advisory Board, or PAB, for consideration of inclusion in the Local Control Accountability Plan, or LCAP.

  • Assisting in the development of the school wide needs assessment.

  • Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

  • Each ELAC shall have the opportunity to elect at least one member to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). Districts with 31 or more ELACs may use a system of proportional or regional representation.
